Illustration Friday Topic- Danger

This is a painting of a young elephant seal. One of the writers in my critique group wrote a great story about this adorable creature and I was inspired. One of the grave dangers for them are sharks. There is a place in California, Ana Nuevo where you can go and see these extraordinary creatures. It is incredible. Here's a link to the park. http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=1115

  1. Nice illustration! Love how the sharks are understated in the background. I hope the seal gets away!

  2. I just realized that the topic is warning not danger. My only defense is a sleep deprived mind blip. I've been blipping all day.

  8. Bravo! Seeing the movement of the seal I think the shark will not have a chance to catch him. :o)

  9. I was diving once on the great barrier reef I used up my tank in no time at all because I kept taking big deep breaths which used up all my air too fast - and why - I couldn't stop worrying about sharks. I felt I was in the position of that little seal. Which I knew I wasn't but that didn't help.

Fantastic illustrations. Really good choices of colour. I hope to do children's books one day.

  11. Thanks everyone for the nice comments. Alan, a friend of mine was surfing and dolphins came by. All he saw was the dorsal fin and was paddling like mad. I don't think I'd want to run into a great white in anyway but an aquarium. For all those concerned no animals were harmed in the process of this painting.
